What: NFL Alumni Chapter of Austin donation made in the name of Lake Travis senior quarterback, Garrett Gilbert, to the Make-A-Wish Foundation® of Central & South Texas at the Lake Travis High School Championship Ring Ceremony.
When: Wednesday, March 11 at 6:30 p.m. Where: Lake Travis High School Cafeteria, 3324 Ranch Road 620 South, Austin, TX 78738. Why: As the son of Gale Gilbert, former NFL quarterback and member of the NFL Alumni Chapter of Austin, Gilbert’s accomplishments, including multiple football awards, academic honors and his dedication to the community, will be recognized with a $1000 donation in his name given by the NFL Alumni Chapter of Austin to the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Central & South Texas. Through this check presentation, the goal of the NFL Alumni Chapter of Austin is to honor the high achievements of a chapter member’s son, to motivate Gilbert and those around him to remain involved in the community and to spread the chapter’s mission of Caring for Kids. In the last 5 years, the NFL Alumni Austin Chapter has donated over half a million dollars to local youth-oriented non-profits. About the Make-A-Wish Foundation® of Central & South Texas The Make-A-Wish Foundation grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength, and joy. With the help of generous donors and more than 350 volunteers, the Make-A-Wish Foundation® of Central & South Texas has granted more than 2,500 wishes to children in 40 counties since 1985. During the past year, volunteers and donors made possible for 228 children to experience the magic of a wish.

The Lake Travis Cavaliers defeated the Longview Lobos 48-23 in Waco, Saturday, December 20, 2008, capturing their second consecutive Class 4A football state title. To celebrate the title, a Championship Ring Ceremony has been set for Wednesday, March 11 in the Lake Travis High School Cafeteria. To start the ceremony, senior quarterback, Garrett Gilbert, will be honored by the NFL Alumni Austin Chapter with a check presentation in his name to the Make-A-Wish Foundation® of Central & South Texas. Alden, a Make-A-Wish child whose wish is to be in a movie, will accompany Gilbert at the presentation.
